Day 18 – Pictures!

Wow, two and a half weeks old already! I see that Marly has made her pups available for viewing now as they only have a few weeks to go. Time flies!
The kittens are definitely responding to us and recognizing things that are going on. It was time to change beds too. [...]

Nearly standing

The kittens are getting stonger every day. They’re starting to stand up now, very wobbly, but definitely on their way.
We brushed another huge fur ball out of Hanna yesterday. We found a new use for a fist-sized ball of her fur… it smells and feels just like her, so if we hold the [...]

First to sit up

Yesterday was the first day that Honey managed to hoist herself up on her little front legs and sit up like a “real cat”. They’re getting stronger every day and will probably be able to climb into and out of the bed soon.
I think they may be medium or long haired cats. [...]

Day 11

At this point the kittens are active enough to sometimes drag themselves out of the warm, comfy cat bed and onto the nearby cold, hard newspaper, where they then squeal until momma comes and gets them. Honey managed to get herself perfectly balanced on the padded rim of the cat bed so [...]

Day 10… eyes wide open

Right on schedule, all the kittens have their eyes open at ten days old! We’ve also settled on names for the last two kittens. The calico is now Heebie (as in Heebie Jeebie) and the gray is now Harley.
So I present to you:
Heebie, Harley, and Honey!

Leslie decided it was time Hanna got a [...]

Importance of licensing your pet

Tonight on the way home in the rain I noticed a stray dog near our home. I stopped the car and looked around, but couldn’t see anyone with the dog. It was a collie mix of some kind. I opened the car door and called, and the dog came over wagging. [...]

Iguanas

( iguanas )

The kittens and Hanna are all doing very well, eating, sleeping, and more eating.
In the meantime, I’ll tell you all about fostering iguanas. We’ve fostered three iguanas in total for the SPCA, all within a period of a few months. 2004 was the Year of the Iguana in our house. [...]

Previous litters: The Letter C

After Belle and her babies, we fostered more kittens in May 2004. The momma was once again a young and skinny stray cat, but this time the kittens were all healthy. The smallest one, Cocoa, wasn’t gaining weight and so we did supplement her with a bit of milk. It was a [...]

Day 7… four eyes open (kind of)

The calico kitten and the grey have their eyes a teeny bit open already. Honey’s eyes are still squinted tightly shut, she’ll look at the world when she’s good and ready and not one second before.
The kittens are already past the “hissing” stage, they’re used to our scent now. We don’t handle them [...]

Day 6

The kittens spend their days eating and sleeping, and Hanna stays with them 99% of the time. This morning I went down and brought her fresh “gooshy food” and she looked at it longingly from the comfort of her bed… so of course I held it so that she could have breakfast in bed. [...]
