The term exotic is a large umbrella term used at the Saskatoon SPCA, used to describe every animal that isn't a dog, cat, bird or rabbit, including small mammals, fish, reptiles and rodents.
These sometimes unconventional pets may not be for everyone, but they can make great additions to your home, if you approach them with an open mind. Care for these animals is quite different than for a dog or cat, and it is always best to research the housing and handling requirements specific to the type of animal you are interested in. The Adoption Representatives at the SPCA are happy to help answer any questions you may have, or you can refer to materials supplied by the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies, of which the Saskatoon SPCA is a member, available here.
